How To Set Up Categories on Orble
September 14th 2010 06:42
A couple of weeks ago I noticed there were a few people having difficulties setting up Categories correctly on their Orble blog. I wrote a reply to help them solve their problem, which has been well received. I have decided to put it on my main Orble blog too, to try and help more people.
Here it is, I hope it helps any difficulty you are having with categories:
Hi,
I know how frustrated you feel not being able to get the categories working. I had exactly the same problem about a month ago and tried everything for a few days. Eventually I found out what I was doing wrong, so here is how to solve your query:
1) Select the blog you want to change the categories for and select [Modify]. A new page will open, scroll down to Post Categories and click "HERE"
2) You Should now be on the post categories page. Underneath Post Categories there is a link to create a ROOT CATEGORY. Click this link and your Root Category will be created, it will appear under all of your current categories
3) The idea of a Root Category is that it holds together a group of categories that you can actually post to. Name Your Root Category with a generic name, for example if you have a blog about animals name the Root Category "Dogs" or "Cats". Don't worry too much about the title now as you can edit it to a title more relevant whenever you want to.
Now left click with your mouse on the icon second from left next to your new category. This creates a new sub category, you can have as many of these as you require
Name the new sub categories with blog specific titles. If your Root Category was "Cats", you could name your sub categories "looking after your Cat", " Cat health and Wellness" or any other Umbrella title relevant to Cats.
Once you have finished setting up your new Categories just click "Modify Post Categories"
When you next post to your Orble blog you will now have the option to post to any of the sub categories you have just created
Sorry if some info was too basic for some readers, I just wanted to make sure I clarified everything. If you still have problems please feel free to get in touch
Chris

STAGE 3 IS MOST IMPORTANT OTHERWISE NO NEW CATEGORY WILL SHOW UP IN POSTING OPTIONS
