Blog Network Closing
July 16th 2008 19:28
One of my favorite sites to write for is my Bike Diva blog. I started the Bike Diva blog back in January. It was hosted on the WebbleYou blog network.
Today I received a very long email from the WebbleYou administrator stating that he is shutting down WebbleYou by the end of the month. Here is a copy of part of that email
DISTURBING EMAIL
"Dear WebbleYou Blog Network Authors,
I regret to announce that WebbleYou Blog Network is closing its doors. While the content you write increases the quality of the network each day, several factors have brought us to a point where we can no longer continue.
-Individual domains will be for sale, so if you like the domain you're blogging on, make an offer and we can discuss a transfer of ownership. Authors will be given preference over external buyers. Most domains will be left to expire or sold externally if an offer is not made.
Next, some background on why we are unable to continue operations:
-I am personally no longer able to devote the time necessary to handle day-to-day management or even ownership functions. I am starting a new job as well as a PhD program in the fall, and already I am unable to keep up adequately with your routine requests for payments, earnings reports, basic site maintenance, etc.
-Previous attempts to find a buyer for the network (at any price) have failed. Those who have the technical and business skills required for this type of work are typically already doing so on their own, and the legal implications of a transfer of ownership are more than I want to deal with at this point.
-The network has, despite all our hard work, not been profitable, much less lucrative for authors. Blogging has become quite commericialized and competitive, and while I believe there is a market for networks with "content integrity" as we strived for at WYBN, it is not a financially viable business model at this scale.
Thanks,
Justin

YIKES!!!! I thought WebbleYou was doing really well. Although they are a small site, their blogs seem to be quite popular. I've been getting TONS of traffic to my site lately. But I never set it up thinking I would make any money.
I am a freelance writer and one of the areas I am trying to concentrate on is sports, nutrition and training type of articles. I am a long distance cyclist and have recently started to participate in time trial races. So cycling is a passion of mine. EVERYONE knows me as the Bike Diva now.
BIKE DIVA ON WORDPRESS
WebbleYou uses Wordpress, so I'm already familiar with how to use that blogging platform. So I went over to Wordpress.com this morning and signed up for a free account. And I was able to get everything from the old site imported into the new site.
BIKE DIVA DOMAIN
But now I am trying to get my domain name from WebbleYou. My new site is thebikediva.wordpress.com. Fine and dandy, except that I've spent the last 7 months linking to other sites using bikediva.net. So I am waiting to hear from Justin at WebbleYou to see if he will transfer the bikediva.net domain over to me. Otherwise I'm gonna have to spend another 7 months getting traffic to find the new site.

Thanks for stopping by.
The weird thing is 2 months ago my Bike Diva blog won WebbleYou blog of the month. I even got a $25 Amazon gift certificate for being blog of the month. Thankfully I already used the gift certificate before WebbleYou asks for it back!
Take care,
Lynn
