Have You Heard of Absolute Write?
I just joined the forum over on Absolute Write a few days ago. I had been looking for information on the About.com prep process for guides-in-training. I found a link on the Suite101 forums to the Absolute Write About.com thread. So I ran right over and signed up. The About.com thread on Absolute Write is over 90 pages so far!!! It contains TONS of information on writer's that have gone through or are going through the prep school to possibly become a guide for About.com.
But Absolute Write is a terrific resource of information on a wide variety of subjects. Fiction writing, freelance writing, self publishing, blogging, etc... So far I'm only using the forum but Absolute Write is a complete online writing community. It would take me weeks, months to go through all the information covered on the site.
Besides the forums, other major topics include: classes, market listing, store, editorial services and writer's directory.
Here's a blurb from the Absolute Write website:
"Welcome, writers! If you're interested in freelance writing, screenwriting, playwriting, writing novels, nonfiction, comic book writing, greeting cards, poetry, songwriting, or-- well, you get the idea-- you're in the right place. Thanks for visiting the one-stop web home for professional and beginning writers."
Absolute Write should be bookmarked by any serious writer.

Writer's Notes
Absolute Write is indeed an excellent all-around writing resource! They also have a free e-mail newsletter with more great info and articles on various aspects of writing and marketing your work.
In fact, for those writers who enjoy writing about writing, the newsletter can be a good market for their work. I've had a few articles published in the Absolute Write Newsletter and in fact have one under consideration there right now.
They accept reprints, and it is a paying market--which means that you potentially can pick up a few bucks for posts that have already been published on your blog (or articles that have been published elsewhere), as long as they fit Absolute Write's criteria for publication.
Those interested in this market should be sure to read and follow the submission guidelines on the Absolute Write website, though, since they have a specific manuscript format that needs to be followed to have work accepted there.
Great post!

Thank you for all the fantastic information! I'll definately sign up for the newsletter the next time I'm over there.
Just a bit overwhelming with the amount of material to go through. And I"m still in prep school to possibly become a guide on About.com so I have the attention span of a gnat right now.
Take care,
Lynn

I know exactly what you mean! So much great material to read, and so little time to read it! It's the same way with great blogs!
Best of luck in your About.com guide training!
